A modern Radiotherapy Center was built in Kalisz. It offers medical services to the patients with oncologic diseases, treated with radioactive radiation and chemotherapy, also provides an appropriate diagnostics. The investment was implemented by Skanska.

The facility in Kalisz is a two storey building, in which there are clinics, diagnostics part with surgeries, social and administration part as well as a hostel with ten rooms for patients. Also, a part of the existing hospital was transformed into Oncological Ward and cytostatics pharmacy, as a part of the investment.

Radiotherapy bunkers and barium concrete
Skanska built two radiotherapy bunkers for patients suffering from cancer. The bunkers need to comply with relevant requirements to protect people against harmful radiation. This is why they were performed with the use of monolithic reinforced concrete technology. Their walls are 1.7 m thick and the bunker’s doors weigh 5 tonnes. Skanska used barium concrete panels to provide the appropriate level of protection of the walls and ceilings against radioactive radiation produced by the accelerators. Barium concrete is characterized with a higher volumetric density, i.e. 3.2 tonnes/m3 (standard concrete – approx. 2.2 tonnes/m3).

Fifty patients can be admitted every day to the Radiotherapy Center in Kalisz, which is a part of Wielkopolskie Oncology Center in Poznań.
