Worked in Skanska UK in London at a construction site of one of the Olympic infrastructure facilities. In Skanska since 2004, currently works as a Project Engineer in Hydroengineering Construction Branch in Cracow. Hobby: traveling, skiing and swimming.
When I was informed that I will be going to London, I was happy. I have been going there for vacation when I was studying.
I learnt how to work in an international environment. A team of 30 people had members representing more than 10 nationalities. I met a lot of young Skanska employees. I discussed differences between working in Poland, Sweden and England with Maria from Sweden, another Skanska Unlimited participant, who also came to London.
There are many differences. From a lot of meetings every day, through a larger number of white collar employees on projects up to hiring people from agencies. Each employee in UK has to pass a state H&S exam, after which he or she gets a CSCS card – without it an employee is not allowed to enter a construction site. Apart from helmets, protective boots and reflective vests, all employees, both blue and white collar, has to wear goggles and gloves.
I left a lot of friends in London, when I was leaving.
