Skanska provided preconstruction and construction management services for the new Miami Valley Hospital Southeast Addition and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) project.
The new 12-story patient tower has a heart program which includes an intervention center, cardiac surgery and 178 private heart-related inpatient beds. Also included in this project were two floors shelled for future development, additional shelled space for imaging, two levels of underground parking, loading dock, overhead pedestrian connectors and a new main entrance.
Prior to construction for the patient tower, Skanska completed the tower enabling project on a very tight site. This phase consisted of the demolition of three campus buildings including the original hospital structure, construction of a temporary loading dock, relocation of chiller-well piping, relocation of bulk oxygen farm and installation of a temporary elevated walkway.
The multi-phased NICU renovation was very complex as it involved working in and around an existing OR and NICU. The NICU upgrade was completed in May 2009, bringing the Level 3 unit within the requirements of Regulatory Agencies and increasing the bed count from 49 to 60. All patient beds are private.
