Modern facilities for central Nottinghamshire Hospitals

We modernised three hospital sites for Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust and Mansfield District Primary Care Trust: King’s Mill Hospital, Mansfield Community Hospital and Newark Hospital.

Now that the construction phase is over, we are providing facilities management services at all three hospitals.

Operational support

We provide a range of facilities management services, such as looking after the fabric of the buildings together with mechanical and electrical engineering. This includes everything from garden and grounds maintenance to energy and utilities monitoring.

We also provide a comprehensive waste management service – which is extremely important in a clinical setting.

Meeting people’s needs

This leading project in healthcare design incorporated a sustainable, therapeutic and accessible healing environment to aid recovery, encourage learning and provide a welcoming environment for patients, staff and the public.

At King’s Mill we created a new 860-bed acute hospital. We also refurbished other buildings to create a new diagnostic treatment centre, operating theatres, a pharmacy, imaging suites and a rooftop restaurant.

Hospital improvements

For Mansfield Community Hospital we installed a new entrance and administration building and refurbished other facilities. This resulted in 84 bed spaces, a rehabilitation unit, an outpatients’ area and x-ray department.

At Newark Hospital we improved the building exterior and installed a new centralised boiler plant.

Reducing energy usage, carbon emissions, and waste

The geothermal system installed at King’s Mill Hospital currently provides 90 per cent of the cooling for the building. This uses heat exchangers installed at the bottom of the King’s Mill reservoir.

We won a Green Apple award for our behavioural change programme, which reduced the trust’s waste costs by around £200,000 per year.

Other initiatives to improve energy efficiencies and cost savings include installing LED lighting and boiler optimisation.
