Crusell Bridge

  • Crusell Bridge

Crusell Bridge links the Ruoholahti district of Helsinki to the residential area of Jätkäsaari. Housing space for about 16,000 inhabitants and office space for about 6,000 workers is being constructed in the old goods harbour area of Jätkäsaari. The area will be fully complete in the 2020s. The bridge has lanes for pedestrians, cyclists, cars and trams.

The bridge is one of Finland’s highest. Its pylons rise to a height of 49 metres. It is 143 metres long, 25 metres wide and its greatest span is 92 metres.

The bridge is Finland’s first civil construction project, in which all the structural plans were produced through Building Information Modeling (BIM). Models were also used in the calculation of the amount of concrete required and in cutting and bending of steel reinforcements. In that way it was possible to reduce the percentage of waste material.
