Shopping Center IsoKristiina

  • Shopping Center IsoKristiina

Skanska has renewed and expanded the IsoKristiina shopping center located in the center of Lappeenranta.

IsoKristiina now has 34,000 square meters of rentable space, of which 27,000 square meters are commercial premises. The shopping center offers around 80 shops and services, which include Finnish and international brands.

Challenging construction work in a busy urban center

IsoKristiina is an example of challenging construction work in the middle of a city and an operating shopping center. Occupational safety, environmental values and good cooperation with other actors in the area together constitute responsible construction.

Logistics and informing different interest groups of the progress of the project turned out to be essential factors in ensuring the safety of people and the environment and improving operational efficiency. IsoKristiina's renovated section was an old building, whose location in the city center contributes to good opportunities for the environmentally responsible use of the property.

Environmentally efficient thinking guiding construction

IsoKristiina aims at a gold-level LEED® certificate. Skanska is responsible for the completion of the project's certification process, energy-efficiency calculations and the achievement of environmental targets in a manner expected by the client. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized and widely used environmental certification system for buildings. LEED design is seen on the worksite in many ways every day, for example in the collection of information and procurement.

Waste management on the shopping center worksite is carefully planned and implemented. In October 2014, around seven percent of worksite waste was disposed of in a landfill.
