Press release 12/6/2021 11:12 AM CET

Generation Park Y, developed by Skanska in the Warsaw’s Wola district, has been awarded the LEED Core & Shell certificate at the Platinum level - an international system of building assessment for energy savings and reduction of water consumption. Consequently, it has an impact on reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Generation Park Y is the highest Skanska office building in this part of Europe. This 140-meter construction is the crowning of the office complex situated at Rondo Daszyńskiego in Warsaw. The project is one of the best examples of the Swedish developer’s sustainable approach to designing and constructing office buildings. Thanks to the use of innovative solutions, the use of Generation Park Y entails significantly lower consumption of resources. With responsible management and conscious use of the facility, as well as by equipping it with the gray and rain water recovery system, savings of drinking water may exceed even 63%. The daily capacity of gray water accumulation is as much as 20,000 liters. This is the amount that would fill up a large garden pool. On the other hand, the outdoor vegetation has been designed in such a way that it doesn’t need any tap water.

The tightness of the facade, the use of high-performance glazing and solar reflecting material on the roof as well as the use of energy-efficient devices, makes it possible for Generation Park Y to use much less energy compared to other office buildings that meet the requirements of WT regulations. Furthermore, this Skanska project will use 100% renewable energy.

Green already at the design stage

A quarter of the materials used to build Generation Park Y contain recycled components. Among other things, low-VOC paints, adhesives and sealants were used. Moreover, the wood used in the construction of Generation Park Y was FSC-certified, setting standards for responsible forest management.

LEED certification applies both to the solutions used at the stage of erecting the building and its use, but also, for instance, to the location of the project. Employees and visitors who want to get to the building using public transportation have got as many as 2,900 daily connections. The office building offers a rich cycling infrastructure with 187 parking spaces, changing rooms and showers. The building also provides electric vehicle charging stations.

Generation Park Y is a reflection of our goals and mission to create sustainable office spaces with a significantly lower environmental impact. As a responsible developer, Skanska is committed to making a decisive difference. Therefore, we use solutions that reduce carbon dioxide emissions. By 2030, we plan to reduce our own carbon dioxide emissions by 70% – says Adam Targowski, Environmental Director at Skanska's commercial development business unit in CEE.

It is not over yet

LEED Core & Shell is another distinction recently received by Generation Park Y. The project has been awarded the WELL Health-Safety Rating certificate, which proves that the office spaces in the Skanska project are entirely safe for their users and properly prepared for the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. An application was submitted for WELL Core & Shell and Obiekt bez Barier (Building without Barriers) certificates for this building.

Generation Park Y is the future head office of Grupa PZU - and several thousand persons will work there. The employees will move to the new location in Q2 2022.
