Health and safety as office work priorities: Skanska’s office building in Poznan is WELL Health-Safety Rating certified

Press release 1/18/2022 10:00 AM CET

Building D, a part of the Nowy Rynek office complex in Poznan, was awarded the prestigious WELL Health-Safety Rating certificate. The distinction is the best confirmation that Skanska’s investment had been developed in line with the most important need of employees: a sustainable, safe and healthy workspace.

Receiving the WELL Health-Safety Rating certificate confirms that building D has met the requirements the enable a safe return to offices – such as the implementation of new sanitation and disinfection standards. The distinction is awarded to office spaces which comply with the highest safety parameters, thus reducing the risk of disease transmission and creating healthy and user-friendly workplaces.

– Skanska’s most recent survey, conducted among 2,000 office workers, confirms that more than half of them work exclusively in the office and the hybrid work is still the most preferred working model. This proves that offices are, and will remain, part of our lives. For that reason, workplace safety is our top priority – especially in such a difficult time of the pandemic, when it is necessary to implement stronger measures for health protection – says Adam Targowski. Environmental Director at Skanska’s commercial development business unit in CEE

Nowy Rynek D features innovative solutions, such as ventilation and temperature control system based on chilled beams – they guarantee greater thermal comfort, cleaner air and quiet operation of equipment. Moreover, an innovative platform Connected by Skanska is available in the office building, allowing for integration of various functions in one mobile app. Thanks to it, employees of the tenants will be able to move around the building without the need for traditional access cards – they can use their smartphones instead. In addition, the intelligent activity-based parking system will optimally manage the allocation of parking spaces.

Skanska’s flagship investment in Poznan

Phase D of Nowy Rynek, completed in June 2021, offers approx. 39,000 sqm of modern office space. It will be the first investment in the region to apply for the WELL Core & Shell certification.

While the investment of the Swedish developer in Poznan is a combination of innovative solutions, it manages to preserve the tradition and character of its location. The project was created as a supplement to this part of the city. Its distinguishing feature will be a market square located within the complex.

The design of Nowy Rynek includes green areas – they offer leisure options and promote social get-togethers. A city square will be set in the center of the complex, with an open layout of walkways and passages. It will be enriched with small, attractive architecture; there will be bicycle stands as well as repair stations there.

The first pavement in Poznan made of eco-friendly smog-eating concrete has been laid around the buildings – it is designed to reduce the level of pollution. Almost 4,000 sqm of paving stones have been placed in the area surrounding building D. As works on the fourth building are still in progress, Skanska will lay another 4,200 sqm of the anti-smog pavement. Eventually, it will cover almost 10,000 sqm (including the square and the area around Building E) – this is the equivalent of over 100,000 pavement plates.

Not only Poznan

Recently, the WELL Health-Safety Rating certificate has been extended for three further Skanska’s investments: Wave in Gdansk, Brama Miasta in Lodz, and Centrum Południe in Wroclaw.
