Skanska’s offices in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Romania achieved the demanding WELL Health-Safety Rating

Press release 5/4/2022 11:00 AM CET

Skanska has successfully completed WELL Health-Safety certification process for its four office spaces across CEE in Corso Court in Prague, Nordic Light A in Budapest, Spark C in Warsaw and Equilibrium 1 in Bucharest. It is yet another success in Skanska’s continued efforts to create safe and healthy places, that are deeply rooted in the company’s care for life value.

Skanska offices in CEE with a WELL Health-Safety Rating

Health and safety of people have always been, are, and will be on the top of our agenda. Therefore, we are more than happy that this time the offices where our teams operate obtained a WELL Health-Safety Rating with an excellent result. We want to set an example in delivering sustainable workplaces that support people’s wellbeing and health in every possible way and these recent accomplishments prove that we are heading in the right direction – Eva Nykodymová, Environmental Manager at Skanska commercial business unit in CEE.

Skanska was the first developer in Europe that has achieved a WELL Health-Safety rating for eight buildings in Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic in 2021, and intends to pursue the certification for all its new projects. Obtaining the WELL Health & Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management for its own office spaces across four locations in CEE is taking a step further. During the certification process, premises have been evaluated in six categories: cleaning and sanitation, emergency preparedness programs, health service resources, air and water quality management, stakeholder engagement, and communication and innovation. Skanska’s offices have achieved exceptional results for 18 out of 20 features in all the abovementioned categories.

Our certification procedures in the past were conducted for completely new projects – in the Core & Shell scope – meaning that they were assessed just after getting the occupational permit. This process was different as it concerned currently functioning buildings and premises in use. What made it even more unique was that the process was conducted in four different buildings located in four different countries simultaneously. Therefore, our latest achievement is even more special for us – says Eva Nykodymová.

Most people spend on average 90% of their time indoors. Therefore, it’s not surprising that facilities and their interiors have a profound impact on our health, well-being, and, ultimately, productivity on a daily basis. Having this in mind, Skanska is focused on creating future-proof, sustainable and inclusive places for the users of its office buildings. This is reflected e.g. in the company’s various safety practices, such as touch-less solutions, restricted use of hazardous or harmful ingredients in cleaning, disinfection, monitoring, treating air and water quality and ensuring a healthy re-entry to the office area. Moreover, being aware of the importance of proper lighting during work, Skanska not only makes sure users of office spaces it develops have access to sunlight but also uses a special type of lightning that resembles natural light and adapts to its intensity indoors. The well-being of office users and positive atmosphere in buildings is also maintained through the presence of various plants and trees, elements of art, such as creative graphics on the walls, as well as the use of sustainable materials incorporated into the design.

WELL Health-Safety certification is an evidence-based third-party verified rating for all building and space types, designed to help owners and operators prepare safer spaces for their tenants, visitors and other stakeholders going back to the offices in a post-pandemic environment. The aim of the WELL Health & Safety Rating is to prioritize the long-term health and safety of employees, visitors and stakeholders and act as a validation that the certified spaces are totally safe for the occupiers. The certificate is awarded to office spaces with the highest safety parameter.
