The Nowy Rynek D office building, which is part of the Poznań complex developed by Skanska, is located at the intersection of Wierzbięcice and Wujka streets, on the site of the former bus station. An essential part of this environmentally and socially sustainable investment, which will provide a total of over 100,000 sq m of modern office and service space, there is a courtyard open to the public where people can meet, spend time and relax. It is a space for both the tenants of nearby office buildings and the residents of Poznań.

Eco-friendly building

The jury of the Green Building Awards 2022 competition recognized the innovative pro-environmental solutions used in building D, such as low-speed ventilation, chilled beams, freecooling, gray and rainwater recovery technologies or photovoltaic panels. The office building was constructed using recycled materials and those with a low content of volatile organic compounds. The jury also recognized the bicycle infrastructure, as well as the fact that the entire building is powered by 100% renewable electricity.

Nowy Rynek is also the only place in Poznań with a concrete pavement that reduces harmful compounds from car exhaust fumes, which in turn makes the air around it cleaner. Near building D there are almost 4,000 sqm of the "green" pedestrian route. And that’s not all. An additional 4,200 sqm of space will be provided as part of the construction of building E. Besides, the roof of Nowy Rynek D houses 30,000 city bees who live in the hives erected there, while nesting boxes for swifts have been placed in the surrounding area.

Highest standards confirmed by certificates and awards

This year's recognition in the Green Building Awards confirms that we have chosen the right sustainable development strategy. We create our investments in harmony with the local environment and care for its ecosystem. They are therefore known not only for their modernity, but also their impact on the neighborhood. In the construction phase of our buildings, we use non-toxic materials so as not to harm the environment or the people working on the construction site. We submit finished buildings for certifications confirming our compliance with pro-environmental and health and safety standards to ensure the well-being of the people using them – says Veronika Themerson, Environmental Director at Skanska commercial development business unit in CEE.

– One of the certificates that Nowy Rynek D received, the LEED certificate at the highest Platinum level, confirms that the solutions used in the office building reduce its carbon footprint. This proves the highest standard of our investment, which has been appreciated not only by tenants, but also by investors – adds Roland Jarosz, Project Manager at Skanska commercial development business unit in CEE.

The distinction received in this year's edition of the Green Building Awards competition is yet another award for Nowy Rynek D. The building has been recognized by the organizers of the Architectus civitatis nostrae competition of the Mayor of Poznań, where its original architecture, sustainable solutions and responsible integration with the existing infrastructure were also appreciated.

In line with the idea of sustainable development

The competition organized by the Polish Green Building Council PLGBC has been awarding the best green building projects in Poland for over ten years. The jurors evaluate the ecological, architectural and aesthetic aspects of the submitted projects. The awards granted by them not only promote modern solutions for sustainable construction, but also promote such initiatives all over the world. The sustainable approach of the Skanska office unit was also appreciated during the Eurobuild Awards competition, where in this year's edition the company was recognized as the ESG leader in the real estate industry in Central and Eastern Europe.

Sustainable development is an integral part of the business strategy and projects developed by companies from the Skanska Group. By 2030, the company plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70% as part of its own emissions, and achieve full emission neutrality by 2045. So far, the company has reduced its emissions by 51% in its operations compared to 2015, the benchmark. In order to achieve the goal of climate neutrality, Skanska uses such solutions as concrete with a reduced carbon footprint in the construction of Warsaw office buildings - Studio in Wola and P180 in Mokotów, or electricity from renewable sources.
