The Helsinki Olympic Stadium is being renovated into a multifunctional and versatile event arena that will serve its future users as a state of the art stage for both significant sport and memorable culture events. The improvements and renovation will turn the arena into a multi-purpose event centre that easily meets highest international event organising standards.
The renewed Helsinki Olympic Stadium is estimated to be visited by around one million guests each year. Around 40 000 square meters of completely new or fundamentally improved space is currently being expanded to host event guests, event organisers and residents of Helsinki.
The arena’s bleachers, fields and tracks are to be renovated as well. The bleachers will be decked and the surface area for both the restaurant and bathroom facilities will be doubled. The total square footage of the construction site, bleachers included, is around 90 000 square meters. The contract is estimated to be finished during 2019.
The biggest building construction project for Skanska Finland to date
Designing and building functional spaces for sports and leisure is a strong suit for Skanska. The Helsinki Olympic Stadium renovation is being executed through a cooperative project management model in which Skanska is the main contractor. Thanks to the cooperative contract model further developments and cost-effective new solutions can be explored along the way. The Skanska team executing the plan comprises of experienced individuals who have previously worked with the Hartwall Arena and the Telia 5G Arena (originally called Töölö football stadium and later on Finnair Stadium and Sonera Stadium) in Helsinki.
The Olympic Stadium contract is the largest ever building construction project carried out by Skanska Finland, in which Skanska is the sole main contractor.
